We had "Crafty Time" at my friend, Alison's house. While a couple of us used the time for some sketches or painting their nails, Alison finished her awesome mobile. It turned out so cute! and perfect for some creative inspiration above a work space.
You can see more of Alison's great projects on her blog but alas, I digress.

Circus Circus Circus
Our senior line is coming up and we are all eager to get our inspiration together. I've been leaning towards circus themes lately (reading Water for Elephants and watching Disney's Dumbo) and came across these. It was just what I needed right now.

Merle Haggard
My man and I drove to Spokane to see Merle Haggard. The concert was great and the sunset drive up set the mood for some classic country music.

Studio
Put in some studio time today. Enjoyed it immensely but I come to find I am very much an independent worker.
Nuthouse
We have a particularly impressive improv team at the school, and having said that, last night was a particularly great show. The energy was up and the jokes were quality, the guy in charge conducted it with great rhythm that kept the audience really enthralled. Well done guys! ( and lady of course).

Embellishments
I work in an ice-cream and candy store and this morning my manager had made an embellished waffle cone. I took it from there and decorating waffle cones is now my favorite thing to do at work. These are the few I made this morning.

Creative Silver
I love trying to find creative Christmas gifts my close ones every so often throughout the year. When I came across these I believe the actual words that came out were "Ohmygawd". They would be so clever for my mom and sisters. I definitely think I'd feel smart just wearing one. I think the serotonin cufflinks would be great for any guy I know and I'd give a creativity necklace to a number of my friends.

my designs
Photos by Micheal Harris |
My friend and fellow apparel design major, Hannah, and I recently threw together a fashion show for a school event. I asked a photographer I recently me to attend and he got some beautiful photos! This one is a particular favorite of mine. It's a caplet I designed my second year and I and hopelessly in love with it. One of our last-minute-models, Daniella, looked dazzling in it with her yellow curls and fringe. More photos to come!

Steambobbin
Recently a good friend of mine opened her etsy shop, called Steambobbin. Alison makes unique felted wool hats which are just darling. She gets a lot of her inspiration from hats from the 1920's and 40's so they have beautifully classic shapes with her own sweet twist. I really recommend you check out her shop.
This is Alison modeling her own design.
I really love this red one. I got to watch her make it.
See the rest of her designs here.

HAPPY FOURTH!
This weekend was absolutely amazing. The first night we had in Portland we spent with friends and friends only as we rested from the six hour drive (whew!) and went to one of my favorite restaurants in Vancouver, Beaches. Amazing food, well done drinks and a great view of the water. The manila clams Nate and I had for an appetizer were to die for. But then, so was the company.

On the fourth we did July with my family. Both sides. We spent the day at my dad's with all my youngest siblings. I have an insane family. My oldest sister is in her 30's and my youngest brother just turned a year old. Nate spent a solid 2 hours playing basketball with my very athletic 12 year old sister. Watching your boyfriend and middle school sister trash talking each other over basketball is highly recommended.
We ended the day spending time with my mom and older siblings at the Hidden Bay Cafe in Portland. Its a great little restaurant on the water with burgers, beer, cheese dogs and some very strong coffee drinks I couldn't finish. My sister, Ashley, got a job there this summer (very jealous) and worked that night. Which was fine anyway because at least I got to see her during breaks. We watched the big fireworks show across the river. If you've never seen these fireworks in Portland I recommend it. They're massive and beautiful. And curling up in a blanket with your man and family over beer and burgers should never be underestimated.

We were going to leave the following day after breakfast, but decided to brave a night drive, and spend the day in Portland. I'm so glad we did this. Nate's never seen Portland. After a delicious breakfast of Kalua pork omlets and Loco Moco at Tommy O's in Vancouver, we saw my mom's new apartment in NW Portland which was unbelievably beautiful. We met up with a Navy friend he hadn't seen in years who gave a a great tour of PSU. I think I succeeded in making Nate fall in love with Portland like I've always been.

Shoe Dissection
Shoes of Prey As a fashion major, sometimes I feel I'm a little behind the curve in garment terminology. My mind gets so flustered during my fashion history classes sometimes because I'm a visual and kinetic learner. I found this diagram today and thought it was so cool! |
